An enchanting kingdom of fey magic, woven into the great galabar oaks. Thick forests and dense jungles, filled with a variety of beasts, cover this land of elves.
Capital: Faelinthassa
Notable Features: Elves, fey magic, fey-touched beasts
The kingdom is Lillinosti stretches along the western coast of Drevoss through a seemingly endless forest. The thick forest canopies protect against all but the harshest storms, making the kingdom an ideal place for orchards and havens for fantastic beasts. However, the kingdom’s greatest export is silk, harvested from the webs of giant spiders in underground farms.
Lillinosti society is divided – high elves comprise the nobility, while dark elves live as serfs and vassals. Wood elves and non-elves exist as independent freemen in this feudal society. According to lore, the division resulted from crimes committed during the Fomorian Wars – the high elves accused the dark elves of betraying their kin, with the punishment being an eternity of servitude.
The kingdom’s economy exists because of the labor of dark elves. The high elf nobility knows this and uses unfair laws and wealth structures to keep it that way. The other nations of the Five Kingdoms officially turn a blind eye to this in order to access elven goods, while backing clandestine operations to dismantle such structures.
The high elf nobility prefers to engage in fey magic and Seelie Court politics – and Queen Lilliana is no exception. Many younger elves believe that she cares little for mortal concerns and seeks to ascend to the fey courts.
Interesting Things About Lillinosti
- Fey magic is especially powerful in the elven kingdom. High elf mages use such ancient magic to create impossible objects and fanciful scenery. Stories have their own power in Jemmora, and no magic is more exemplary of that than fey magic.
- The kingdom jealously guards elven goods and treasures, regulating their trade – particularly livewood, giant spider silk, and mithril. This has made smuggling a rewarding, though risky, trade in the kingdom.
- Refugees of the Fomorian Wars founded Lillinosti. They escaped the Feywild through a Relic feygate – a device that created a portal to the elves’ ancestral home. The gate now lives deep within the vaults of the queen’s castle, laying dormant. Court nobles whisper rumors that Queen Lilliana obsesses over finding a way to reactivate the gate.
Lillinosti Characters
When creating a Lillinosti character or NPC, consider the following:
Kingdom of Wondrous Delights. Characters from Lillinosti are continually exposed to the wonders of fey magic, which comes from a land governed by storybook rules, rather than physical laws. How do you react to the relatively mundane world outside of the Feywild’s influence? Are you a practitioner of such magic?
A People Divided. The elves of Lillinosti are divided by a strict social structure resulting from ancient grudges. Your views on the situation might influence your background or its ideals, bonds, or flaws. A conscientious noble might seek to break the social strata, while a smuggler might specialize in getting dark elves out of the kingdom.
Cities and Sites
Lillinosti villages consist of communal treehouses woven around glittering estates. Larger cities are a wondrous spectacle, rivaling the arcane architecture of Kirinjo.
Faelinthassa
Queen Lilliana holds court in the enchanting city of Faelinthassa. In addition to hosting the queen’s palace, the Feylight Trading Company headquarters, several arcane colleges, and an outpost for the Knights of the Five, Faelinthassa also serves a hub for those who lost their way in the Feywild and ended up in Jemmora. The queen hopes that such hospitality for Feywild natives will earn good graces with the Seelie Court.
Dar’denelli
A quiet elven village near the Dremen border, Dar’denelli is a fairly new community of beast handlers and grove tenders. Sitting just out of reach of high elven influence, dark elves live free and flourish here. Ranger Captain Sintare has enlisted Leafdancer to help maintain the village’s existence outside of noble influence.
The Lifegiver’s Grove
This particularly ancient part of the forest houses plants and animals that grow to immense proportions because of Basella’s power. Legends speak of occasions where they even gained sentience, and watch over the grove to this day. Hunters who venture within the grove rarely make it out alive, and never with their quarry.
